As a non-government, non-profit international organization, Boao Forum For Asia (BFA) is the most prestigious and premier forum for leaders in government, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share visions on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. The Forum is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries even closer to their development goals.
Initiated in 1998 by Fidel V. Ramos, former President of the Philippines, Bob Hawke, former Prime Minister of Australia, and Morihiro Hosokawa, former Prime Minister of Japan, Boao Forum for Asia was formally inaugurated in February 2001. Countries across the region have responded with strong support and great enthusiasm, and the world has listened attentively to the voice coming from a tiny, quiet and scenic island at the southernmost part of China-Boao, the permanent site of the Annual Conference of the Forum since 2002.
What about the location, the local people and the like? The site of Asia Forum, a water city of Boao, is located at the Town of Boao, Qionghai CIty, and is 20kms away from Jiaji Town and 110kms away from Haikou city. The people here lead a very simple life. They always wear slippers in the town, including the young girls. It's said that it is the habit of the local people. The streets are built closely together, and the people like to gather together in front of shops, chatting in low voice. What makes more surprise is the country landscape of Boao. On both sides of the newly built roads are vegetable gardens, villages, paddy fields, coconut trees, and sisal hemps. You can see the smoke rising from the villages afar, and the busy farmers in the fields.
The Jade-Belt Beach is one of the tourist attractions. It is 8.5kms long with unique land features in Asia. It is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as "the narrowest sand peninsula to separate the sea and the river". Now let's go to the Jade-Belt Beach.
On one side is the smooth river water, but on the other side are the vast waves from the ocean. On both sides of the Wanquan River are endless thick tropical plants. Residents and their homes in the small town are buried in green.
The ocean afar is the black reef mass in 20 meters rising up like the piled cobbles. There are the famous Anglican rocks. The river water and the ocean waves strike here. The currents and the ocean waves dash on the Anglican rocks, which cause a dozen meters of water columns and the foam of breaking waves in the air. It is a stirring wonder.
Boao has been developed quickly, and it will been getting more and more attractive in the future.
